Mind and Body Functional Corelationship

It is often said that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body which is interpreted as necessity of a healthy body for a healthy mind. This is a gross misconception. Mind is more basic and independent than the body, therefore it may be healthy even in a sick body.

It is noteworthy here that the body does not control the mind's functioning but the mind controls every metabolism of the body - some at sub-conscious level and some at conscious level, and keep it healthy. So, a sick mind can not keep the body healthy while a sick body may have a healthy mind. however, nutrition to the mind is provided by the body.

Existence and functionality of mind at any time has two components - its origin form and its growth due to nutrition. Nutrition consumption in the body is prioritized as body first and the mind later. Since, it is digested and processed by the body, it gets priority in consumption and goes to the mind only when it surplus from the body. In childhood, the mind may survive in its original healthy form even though it may not be getting adequate nutrition. Since there is no decay of mind in the childhood, nutrition is required for growth only. In old age, decay starts and the nutrition is needed to compensate for the decay.

Nutrition supply to the mind is possible only when the body's metabolic functions are working normally. Since these functions are controlled and regulated by the mind, we may say that the mind feeds itself through body's metabolism. Thus, even the body is fed under control and regulation of the mind.
